Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility

Situated in Banning, the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility stands as the largest correctional establishment of the Department. It accommodates inmates awaiting arraignment, hearings, trials, and sentencing, along with those serving a county jail sentence. The facility also hosts various Corrections Division programs, including the Supervised Electronic Confinement Program, Work Release Program, Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program, Sheriff’s Inmate Training and Education Bureau, a commercial printing shop, centralized warehouse and laundry services, and other counseling, vocational, and educational initiatives. The facility operates under the leadership of a Sheriff’s Captain and is overseen by the Corrections Division Chief Deputy.

Riverside County houses five jails or correctional facilities, all under the management of the Sheriff’s Department Corrections Division, which ranks among the largest jail operations in both the state and the nation. Strict enforcement of rules at these facilities ensures the safety of visitors, corrections staff, and inmates.
